Cover the table with a festive tablecloth and use red and white candles in your candleholders. Sprinkle the tablecloth with metallic red confetti, in Valentine shapes such as hearts, cupids, X's and O's.
Make your own invitations. Buy small, heart-shaped boxes and fill with Eagle Brand® Foolproof Chocolate Fudge. Write the party details on the lid and hand-deliver the invitations.
Fill a vase with red roses, or your loved one's favorite flowers, to set the tone at the dinner table.
Valentine's Day Bookmarks: Cut a 5"x2" strip from red construction paper. Cut white or pink heart shapes about 1/2" to just under 2" wide. Paste the hearts on the bookmark. Punch a hole in the center of the bookmark, about 1/2" from the top and string a red ribbon through the hole and tie.
Valentine's Day Guessing Game: Take a bunch of jars and fill them with assorted Valentine's Day candies (one kind of candy per jar). Be sure to count the number of candies as you put them in the jars. Leave a piece of paper and a pencil next to the jar and have the kids guess how many candies are in the jar. Be sure they write their name on the paper beside their guess. The one who's closest to the correct number wins the jar of candy.
Valentine's Day Heart Relay Race: Cut out different-colored hearts and write two identical sets of various actions on them (hop, clap, crawl, skip, etc.). Decorate two boxes and place a set of the hearts in each box. Divide the kids into 2 teams and have them form lines. The leader of each team runs to their box and pulls out a heart. Each child must return to their team, doing the action they chose. The next child in the line is given the heart and he/she must continue that action back to the heart box, where they pick a new action to return to the team. The game continues until every child has a turn. The first team to finish wins a prize.
